This session is intended to be of benefit to those who come into contact with or are likely to come into contact with adult survivors of Adverse Childhood Experiences in the course of their work and who wish to gain an insight into Dissociative Identity Disorder, PTSD, the overall effects of trauma and the presentation and workshop are based on both factual research and lived experiences from a survivor's perspective. Nonetheless, the experiences, symptoms and behaviours discussed are common in survivors of numerous life events experienced at any age. It aims to provide awareness of the types of trauma related disorders known to exist with the aim that attendees will develop a basic understanding of the subject but which will equip them to deal with individuals potentially experiencing symptoms and have the confidence to discuss the possibilities with colleagues or supervisors.
A workshop, "Handling Those In Distress" will follow the morning presentation, "Understanding Dissociation & Trauma" by Julie Anne, and its focus will be on handling distressed, potentially dissociative individuals where participants will share their knowledge and experience discussing concepts of what can be helpful or unhelpful, "perceptions" of behaviour, consider relevant aspects of Neuro Linguistic Programming and attachment disorders as well as some techniques to help find the "core self" and grounding. Participants are invited to fully participate in these discussions and activities.
